Joe Spica's deal for every Nevada worker!

As a union leader, I know how to fight for a fair deal!

Nevadans who work full time, sometimes at more than one job, are struggling to afford basic necessities like food and housing, while corporations raise prices and rake in record profits. Nearly 25% of single-family homes are being bought up by wealthy investors and rented back to us, driving up profits for investors while locking Nevadans out of the middle class.

When elected to the State Assembly, I will ensure that workers and their families get a fair deal. I’ll fight back against big corporations and make homeownership attainable for more Nevada workers, and rein in out-of-control rent prices. As a dad of three, I know that this fight isn’t just about housing today, it’s about ensuring that our children can afford to live in the state they love.

It’s no secret that our economy is changing, and as a dad I know how important it is not only to create new jobs but to invest in job training programs such as apprenticeships that help young adults move into stable, good-paying jobs in the trades. These programs will also help Nevada workers displaced by changing technology move into new careers.

As a union leader and a Culinary Workers Union member of 15 years, I have been on the front lines fighting for workers. I know how to fight and how to win. Elect me to the State Assembly and I will make sure workers are never an afterthought.

As a dad, I know the importance of good schools. Nevada has some of the largest class sizes in the nation. Our teachers are stretched thin and simply cannot give each student the time and attention they deserve. In Carson City, I will work to rein in out-of-control class sizes and give our teachers the resources to do what they do best, prepare our children to succeed.

Our kids need to learn the lessons of winning, and just as importantly, losing as a team. When I am elected, I will fight to have our public schools offer sports and extracurricular activities for all our kids, at all grade levels. Too many schools don’t offer these important team building opportunities and with the price of Club Sport Teams being so incredibly expensive, many kids are left out. These are skills that will help guide our kids for the rest of their lives, and teach them incredibly valuable experiences that will help them overcome challenges they face as they grow into adults

NV Energy and Southwest Gas have proposed new fees and rate changes that will drive up energy costs for families and small businesses, while both of these companies continue to make massive profits on the backs of working people. Meanwhile, the Public Utility Commission is forcing residents to wait outside in 100-degree heat to have their voices heard. When I am elected to the Assembly, I’ll work to rein in these fees and rate increases and make sure Nevadans are treated fairly.

The cost of health insurance has gone up an average of 26%, with many families seeing even sharper increases. A study by the RAND Corporation found that hospitals were charging those on private insurance more than 2.5 times what they charge Medicaid patients. One hospital in Clark County charged patients 13 times the actual cost of care.

Out-of-control, for-profit health insurance companies and hospitals are bringing in record profits while increasing premiums and co-pays for hard-working Nevadans. Without access to affordable health care, Nevadans are one unexpected health problem away from financial ruin.

In Carson City, I’lll take on greedy corporations and fight for health care that Nevadans can actually afford. Making health care affordable will not only help families; it will also make it easier for small businesses, which employ 45% of Nevada workers, to expand employee benefits.
